Maddox Metal Roofing's roofs are one of the most durable and weather resistant roofing
materials on the market today and have the highest UL ratings for fire, wind, and impact
resistance. In most areas, metal roofs can be expected to last many times longer than a
comparable asphalt shingle roof. In areas, like beaches at North Carolina, with extreme
heat, wind, humidity, or temperature extremes, this advantage can be even greater.
Due to the way metal roofing panels are constructed and installed, they have extremely high
resistance to wind damage. Unlike shingles, tile, or shake, vertical seam metal roofs are installed
with a continuous piece that extends the entire way from the eave (lowest part of the roof) to the
ridge (highest part of the roof). This greatly minimizes the areas where winds and precipitation can
penetrate beneath the roof material and cause damage. In addition, metal roofs have the highest
strength to weight ratio of any roofing material and are mechanically attached to the roof deck
with screws, creating a roof that can withstand many times the stress loads of most other products.
The extreme wind resistance of metal roofs has been vividly demonstrated in the hurricane areas
of Florida. Metal roofs in these areas typically suffered no damage, while asphalt shingle and tile
roof damage was extensive. Because of this, metal roofing has become increasing popular as
homeowners grow weary of constantly repairing their current roofs. One way Florida has
responded is by enacting stricter building codes. Maddox Metal Roofing installs metal roofs which
meet the toughest codes, including Miami-Dade County and Florida Building Code approvals.
Hail can be a big problem in certain areas of the country, and metal roofing passes the strictest
tests for impact resistance available. In a lot of states you can even receive insurance discounts
because of the product’s outstanding durability. Check with your homeowner insurance provider
for discount eligibility.
Freeze / Thaw Cycles
Metal roofs do not absorb water or moisture, making them impervious to the damage caused by
repeated freeze and thaw cycles. This makes metal a great choice for areas with high snowfall.
Metal roofs are increasingly being used in mountainous resort areas and are very popular with
second homes since they are virtually maintenance free.
Metal is inherently non-combustible, making it a great choice for areas where there is a risk for
wildfires. Most house fires in these areas are caused when hot embers ignite the roof. A metal
roof can substantially decrease this risk.
Ultraviolet (UV) Rays
The paint systems on our premium metal roofing panels are formulated with highly UV resistant
inorganic pigments and binding systems. Unlike asphalt shingles, which have no warranty against
appearance damage caused by UV radiation, Maddox Metal Roofing's paint systems are
warranted for specific fade and chalk ratings for a minimum of 25 years. Your roof will not only
last a long time, it will stay looking good, too.
Mold, Mildew, and Algae Resistance
If you live in a climate that experiences high humidity, you’ve probably noticed black stains on
shingle roofs. These stains are caused by airborne algae that grow on the surface of the roof.
Metal roofs are highly resistant to staining from algae, mold, or mildew growth. The smooth
surfaces and inorganic structure of metal makes it extremely difficult for such organisms to gain a
foothold. Metal roofs can also be easily cleaned without risking the damage that can occur with
shingles. A metal roof will stay looking new for years.
